Become a National Youth Ambassador for Health Research
Everyone benefits from health and medical research. Immunisations against childhood diseases or cervical cancer, antibiotic treatments for bacterial infection, sunscreens and lifestyle prescriptions all began with research.
Finding treatments, cures and prevents for disease takes more than the work of individual researchers; more than the collaborative effort of our universities; more than government funding. It takes a commitment from this generation to invest in the future of the next.
The future of Australia's health relies on young people like you.
Research Australia is looking for the 2010 National Youth Ambassador for Health Research - someone who cares about the future health of Australia to help spread the message of the importance of science and research to other young people, business and government leaders. The Research Australia National Youth Ambassador program is an essay based competition for Year 9 and 10 students with opportunities to interact with researchers and government and lead a team of like-minded young people to set priorities for research. Details of the competition will be available soon.
National Youth Ambassador for Health Research 2009
Ahmet Dalkic, from Epping Boys’ High School, is the 2009 Research Australia Youth Ambassador for Health Research.
Ahmet’s winning entry in the national schools competition highlighted the importance of self respect in moulding the shape and function of the brain. Ahmet said having an open mind encouraged innovation and was a great motivator. Meeting challenges head on encouraged growth in character and an enjoyment for life. View Ahmet Dalkic's winning essay.
Ahmet led a teleconference of State winners who developed a consensus statement that was presented to the Parliamentary Secretary for Health at the announcement.
All of the Youth Ambassador State winners have also been invited to participate in mentoring opportunities with national member universities.
